Finite and Infinite Games

Working for a company who understands the Infinite Game, means there is a sense of "cause" at the heart of the company. There is a sense of progress and moving forward, but there is not target to be #1 or the best, since those are relative targets.

You will find a greater value of trust.

Those companies have much higher relationships of trust.

They have made a shift away from seeing others as competitors. That they must beat them. Instead, look for constant improvement.

It is very difficult to work on this, but it is much more fulfilling.

Most rewards, bonus and compensation is NOT based around the infite game, it's always the opposite. Hitting short term targets based on various numbers the company has dictated.

Blockbuster video is a key example. They saw Netflix coming, streaming was the future, and the CEO went to the board and set, we really need to get into this market to succeed.  The board declined the changes because they stated they made 12% of their profits by late fee's... so instead, they focused on profits, and now they are bankrupt.

FMG thinks they are a company of constant improvement, but it's all only driven by one captain and one team. The rest of the organization is in the dark. Many changes have both positive and negative launches since teams are kept out of the initial conversation. Then we spend time fixing problems that were unforeseen by development teams.
